Windows 11 Run menu design receives Microsoft touch-up
The Run menu is one of the few features that remain in the Windows ecosystem for almost an eternity and has just received an aesthetic update from Microsoft. The first real design change after the Windows 95 era lent the tool to the latest test builds of Windows 11 to fit its modern design.
The Modern Style for Traditional Tools
The updated dialog of Run now breaks away from its legacy and adopts the visual language used across Windows 11. Some design features include the following:
- Rounded Corners: The previous ubiquitous sharp edges have now been made smooth.
- Visual Effects: Transparency and blur effects have now been injected into the background to comply with the Windows 11 user's interface.
- Theme Support: The dialog fully supports both light and dark system themes.
- Enhanced Layout: Clarity has been brought to the input panel and the general layout for a more modern look.
Same Functionality
Apart from the makeover, functionally the Run menu has been just as it was in previous versions. It is still a quick command tool for launching applications, exploring folders, and running system utilities using short codes.
An Option for Legacy Users
Microsoft has also retained an option for those who want a legacy experience. According to test-build reports, the new design may be disabled in the system's advanced settings so that the old-style classic Run window comes back.
