Pearl Abyss Crimson Desert Action Adventure Game Features
The development team demonstrated their progress through their presentation of newly developed technologies for their upcoming world project. The team from Pearl Abyss explained in detail that the game has developed into a different MMO product from its first announcement. The game has transformed into a single player action adventure experience that uses physics based combat for storytelling through player driven events.
The game takes place on the continent of Pywell which the developers describe as more than twice the size of Skyrim’s playable area and larger than Red Dead Redemption 2. The world contains five separate territories which each show distinct political systems and different levels of technological advancement.
- Hernand: A peaceful medieval region that contains both mountains and rivers.
- Deminis: The continent’s central political and military operations base.
- Delissia: A steampunk themed area that uses advanced technology to create mechs and flying robots. The Crimson Desert: A vast, arid expanse that outlaws have taken control of.
- Pywell (Region): The initial home territory of the main character.
Players take control of Cliff who leads the Greymanes mercenary group that upholds strong moral principles. The story begins after Cliff’s faction becomes defeated by the "Black Bears" which forces the Greymanes to disperse throughout the continent. The main mission requires players to gather their team while they investigate a dangerous threat that endangers all of Pywell. The game designers have established a fixed main story yet they note that players will spend most of their time experiencing faction relationships and secondary activities.
The game Crimson Desert features high intensity action yet it does not fit into the "Soulslike" genre. The development team created a sandbox toolkit which enables users to select between different methods of execution. Key combat features include
- Skill Trees: Players can choose between three specializations which include archery (range), tanking (perfect parries), and stealth.
- No Level Scaling: The game maintains constant enemy difficulty standards. Players can obtain victory by either grinding for gear upgrades through resource collection or by mastering the mechanical aspects of the game. Players can obtain unique weapons and armor and special abilities by defeating certain bosses which provide those items.
The single player mode of the game enables players to destroy everything in their environment while using physical reactions to develop combat tensions. Pearl Abyss built the proprietary BlackSpace Engine to handle extensive drawing distances and smooth viewing experiences without the "bloatware" problems which affect standard game engines. The system displays its required specifications through the following technical sections.
- PS5 Pro Support: The game provides official support for PS5 Pro through its "PS5 Pro Enhanced" status.
- The developers target 4K resolution at 60 FPS natively in engine without using upscaling to achieve basic performance targets.
- The advanced technology enables support for AMD FSR Redstone Ray Regeneration Ray Marching global illumination processing and volumetric cloud rendering.
The Steam Deck should operate based on its specifications yet the team currently works on optimization while testing handheld functionality through certification. The game Crimson Desert presents extensive life systems which create a distinct experience from traditional action based games. Players can engage in fishing activities while mining copper ore and crafting armor through blueprints and performing alchemy. The world has been built to create intentional distractions which make the players explore the world beyond the main story path into the sky islands (also known as the Abyss) or the bandit camps. The faction reputation system enables players to change world conditions because a city will remain in "kill on sight" mode until players complete quests to establish a neutral or friendly status.
The developers focus their current efforts on developing their launch process. The developers indicated that they would keep supporting Crimson Desert for an extended time because they experienced with Black Desert Online which received weekly content updates for ten years to maintain player engagement in the game.
The project has reached its current status of optimization phase after the team achieved their initial post gold development milestone. The game supports the following platforms: PC and PS5 Pro Enhanced and Xbox Series X|S.
