OneXPlayer 3 Handheld PC Announcement Features Intel Arc G3 Extreme Graphics Panther Lake Architecture And A Versatile 3 In 1 Modular Form Factor
The handheld PC gaming market gets some competition as the OneXPlayer 3 is officially announced, and is the first handheld to announce that it will officially use the Intel Arc G3 Extreme graphics platform, as the portable is engineered to challenge at the higher end of the handheld space with an adaptable hardware chassis, moving between three separate models.
At the heart of the OneXPlayer 3 system lies the Panther Lake architecture, as the machine uses the Intel Arc G3 Extreme GPU, with 14 CPU and 12 Xe3 cores respectively. These specifications have been designed to enable high rendering performance capable of sustained 60 plus FPS in demanding AAA game titles and an advanced liquid cooling system is implemented to regulate the processing temperatures under this heavy workload.
For visual output, the system features a native 8.8 inch native landscape OLED screen that operates with 144 Hz variable refresh rate and HDR support in order to ensure deep contrast levels, and provide fluid movement when playing demanding titles. To enable sustained gaming performance during lengthy gaming sessions the system includes an 85 Wh capacity battery.
This 3 in 1 system is the core of the OneXPlayer 3s adaptable nature, with the hardware being operable in three main forms: with controllers attached, the system operates as a portable handheld console; detached from the main body, the system works as a portable tablet; and with the built in kickstand (similar to the Nintendo Switchs design) a detached keyboard accessory may be attached in order to convert the system into a highly portable micro laptop.
To ensure durability over the long term, Hall Effect joysticks are used for the controller input, as this prevents drift. The detachment mechanism for the controllers is built around a 99 gram, 1100 mAh battery and a native controller connector unit which will reportedly allow for up to 12 hours of wireless gaming from a single charge. This center piece also incorporates a high precision capacitive touchpad for an exact mouse pointer experience and is equipped with two stage triggers, enabling users to select micro and linear movement respectively, to suit a variety of different game types.
To provide an additional layer of customization on the OneXPlayer 3, several peripheral devices are supported by a suite of external connections on the casing, including:
- 3.5 mm audio jack
- Standard USB Type A
- A USB4 port capable of high speeds
- An SD card reader
- A dedicated Mini SSD connection for further on board storage expansion
These allow users to increase storage for their games or add support for an external GPU.
Pricing details on the device remain unconfirmed following the announcement on crowdfunding site Indiegogo, however analysts suggest the device will fit within the higher end of the premium handheld market segments, with rivals such as the MSI Claw 8 EX expected to reach up to 1599 Euro in some markets, while already established handhelds such as the OneXFly Apex cost starting at $1,399; keep an eye on the OneXPlayer 3 Indiegogo campaign page for details regarding launch schedule and prices.
