Ayaneo Pocket Micro 2 Features Snapdragon 865 Processor With High Quality Metal Build and Enhanced Android Gaming Ergonomics
Ayaneo has unveiled the Pocket Micro 2, a smallish Android gaming portable meant to replace the Pocket Micro of 2024 and onwards. Like its predecessor, it shares the same small form factor and high quality metal body. It now features better ergonomic design, bigger controls and a heavier duty processor inside. But over inflation of world electronics components has affected the prices too, for the new device ranges from an early bird price of 239 USD.
The device has a 3.5 inch LCD screen with a native resolution of 960 by 540. The screen is a standard 3:2 aspect ratio, covers 100% of the sRGB spectrum and enables a 4x integer scaled output for the crisp retro emulation. Internally, Ayaneo has upgraded the aging Helio G99 silicon with a new Snapdragon 865. While the Snapdragon 865 is several generations old, it still represents a 220% performance jump from the proverbial stone age and follows the hardware trend of other recent Android handhelds such as the Retroid Pocket 5.
Handling the processing is either 6GB or 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, while storage options include 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, expandable via a microSD card slot. It comes with Wi Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 for wireless connectivity. A 3950mAh battery drives the system by way of a USB 3.1 Type C port. It is equipped with a fingerprint reader built into the power button for security and access purposes.
Ayaneo has redesigned the interface physically to enhance comfort when playing for a long time. The face keys are now a bit larger, and dual analog sticks are equipped with TMR technology along with RGB LED rings built into the sticks. The dual sticks are also depressed a bit to smooth the idler performance while sliding in a pocket.
The shoulder keys are splitted into larger portions, with the R2 and L2 keys risen a little higher than the R1 and L1 keys, respectively, thus avoiding misoperation when pressing.
System controls (the start key, the select key etc) are located still on the left, but the custom AYA utility key and the home key are moved to the right.
The metal frame provides a few more physical input keys, the LC key sitting just above the storage slot, with the RC and NAV keys to the right. These serve as 0 "Navigation", "Return" and "Multitasking" respectively as default, but customization is possible through the AYASetting menu. For immersive feedback and media, the device provides a gyroscope, an x axis linear vibration motor, 2 chamber speakers and an active internal cooling fan to keep the system cool during heavy duty use. The software environment runs on Android 13 straight off.
The handheld is manufactured in 3 distinct colors, which are Midnight Black, Frosty White, and Stardust Purple. The base configuration with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage carries a launch price of $239 before rising to a standard retail price of $269. The 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage variant is priced at $279 for early buyers and will eventually retail for $309. Both of these tiers are available in Midnight Black and Frosty White.
The Stardust Purple color scheme is exclusive to the high tier 8GB of RAM configuration. This specific aesthetic carries a premium price of $309 during the initial launch phase, eventually settling at a final retail price of $339. Ayaneo has yet to announce the exact shipping schedule or when the product will go on sale for global buyers.
