The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past DLC director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz shares expectations for the 2027 release serving as a bridge to the next saga entry
Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the founder of the Rebel Wolves studio, revealed his expectations for the newly announced DLC for The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt called Songs of the Past. Prior to establishing his own independent studio, Tomaszkiewicz worked as a game director at CD Projekt RED, supervising the entire trilogy as well as its award winning post launch additions. He claimed he'd never managed to experience the fantasy epic as a normal consumer, despite having played through it over 100 times during its development.
Throughout his tenure at CD Projekt RED, Tomaszkiewicz was constantly responsible for quality assurance and design adjustments in relation to the game. This entire cycle fundamentally altered his relationship with the game world, as his intimate knowledge of it prevented him from appreciating it as an ordinary player would.
I never played The Witcher as a gamer. Because when you work on the 1 part, the 2, the 3, and the 2 expansions, you are a developer when you play them. I cannot play The Witcher 3 now because I have restarted it from the beginning so many times and spent too much time inside of it.
Songs of the Past is the first DLC to offer him the chance to engage with The Witcher without knowing all of its secrets. Because the development team had no input from Tomaszkiewicz, it would allow him to finally be an average player among many others. This fact encouraged his direct request to the current development team over at CD Projekt RED.
I hope the expansion turns out well. I will play it for the 1 time as a player and not a developer. I have only 1 request, and I want to say it politely: make it good.
Representatives from CD Projekt RED stated that Songs of the Past will launch in 2027 and will serve as a narrative bridge between the events of the 3rd installment of The Witcher saga and the forthcoming 4th entry in the series. The scale of the addition is planned to be as vast as the one of the much acclaimed Blood and Wine, which concluded the original journey of Geralt of Rivia.
