Microsoft Official Store to Enable Installment Payments for Xbox Hardware and Games Following New Website Backend Leak
Microsoft is set to increase the number of payment options available on their official retail platform, with the inclusion of a new, flexible payment system. The new update to the official Microsoft online store will enable customers to purchase video games, hardware and subscriptions directly from the Xbox website through an installments system. This new feature is aimed towards people wanting to avoid the upfront payment when it comes to high value gaming items, by allowing the amount to be paid in a series of payments.
The new system was made public via online tweets and messages by community developer @redphx, 1 a popular individual well known within the community, by being the primary developer of the Better xCloud utility. According to the information obtained by the developer, the backend of the official Xbox website had been updated to accommodate buy now, pay later functionality. It appears that Microsoft is aiming for an official, global release, by collaborating with established 3rd parties to finance credit on the purchases made through their store front.

The integration is a good logical decision for the digital store front, making it consistent with the other large online retailer marketplaces worldwide. Consoles, high capacity storage drives and premium controller options, all cost a substantial initial amount to acquire. Having a direct financing option available to purchase on the point of sale eliminates any transaction hurdles a customer might face with traditional credit card and direct debit systems.
The direct integration to the portal, means customers will no longer need to explore third party loan options to purchase software and or hardware bundles. It also makes the store front compatible and competitive with existing online stores which are already offering financing schemes to their customers. The regions this payment system will be available in, and the exact financing terms, remain to be seen although the web store now clearly has it present, indicating a forthcoming official launch. Microsoft have not made an official statement with regards to the expected arrival date.
