Hasselblad has finally launched its Phocus Mobile application on Android, ending a 15 year period of iOS exclusivity. The companion app connects directly with the Swedish brand's medium format cameras to handle image viewing, raw file editing, and automated noise reduction. The software is available now on Google Play, though running it requires a minimum of 12GB of RAM and Android 12.
Hasselblad built version 1.0.0 for premium camera bodies. Supported models include the X2D II 100C, the X2D 100C, and the 907X CFV 100C combination. The app maintains the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution across the entire workflow, keeping colors accurate from the initial screen preview to the final export. This makes batch editing simple. Users can also rate images, mark favorites, and copy settings to save time.
Devices with compatible screens can display high dynamic range files directly from the X2D II 100C camera. This lets photographers modify highlights independently. Users can export images as Ultra HDR JPG files or convert raw files into HDR TIFF. The editing toolkit covers exposure adjustments, tone curves, white balance correction, lens distortion control, perspective fixes, and cropping.
Noise reduction relies on a proprietary technology called HNNR. The system spent years training on hundreds of thousands of original Hasselblad captures. Processing a massive 100 megapixel raw photo takes roughly 15 to 20 seconds. That is fast. Photographers can choose between 2 modes. Purity mode offers aggressive noise clean up. Detail mode preserves a natural grain texture to protect fine details.
Photographers can import files over Wi Fi or through a USB Type C physical cable. Hasselblad setup documentation indicates that the wired option requires the X2D II 100C camera to run firmware version 1.3.16.1 or higher. Running the mobile app requires a modern device. While the minimum spec is Android 12 with 12GB of memory, Hasselblad recommends Android 16 and a modern chip like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to get the best performance out of the noise reduction tool.
