MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro Leak Points to 2nm Process and 5GHz Speeds

MediaTek is preparing to launch 2 flagship processors this autumn. According to leaks from Digital Chat Station, the upcoming Dimensity 9600 Pro will use a cutting edge 2nm process from TSMC to deliver frequencies nearing 5GHz. However, buyers will have to wait for the official debut to see how it performs in real life scenarios.

The new lineup splits the release into a standard and a Pro edition. While the base Dimensity 9600 relies on an enhanced version of the previous 3nm node, the Pro variant introduces MediaTek's most powerful silicon architecture to date. The biggest shift lies in the processor layout, which abandons the traditional 4 4 design.

This revised setup uses a 2+3+3 configuration. It features 2 ultra high performance C2 Ultra cores pushed to nearly 5GHz, alongside 3 C2 Premium and 3 C2 Pro cores. Compared to the peak 4.21GHz speed of the previous generation, this represents a massive leap in processing power. The design aims to maximize peak performance during heavy multitasking workloads.

Gamers will want to watch the graphics processing unit closely. The chip integrates the next generation Arm Magni graphics architecture. This hardware supports frame generation and native resolution scaling directly on the chip, helping mobile games run smoother at higher resolutions. Memory speeds also get an upgrade, making this one of the 1st platforms to support LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 storage speeds.

AI gets a dedicated boost through a brand new NGP neural acceleration unit. This chip uses the SME2 instruction set to speed up matrix calculations for local AI processing, which should keep search tasks and voice assistants snappy. Early benchmark estimates suggest the silicon might even beat the standard Snapdragon 8E6 platform. Buyers can expect to see this hardware arrive first in the upcoming Vivo X500 and Oppo Find X10 devices scheduled for release this autumn.
