CD Projekt Red is bringing Geralt of Rivia back for a surprise new adventure. The studio has announced Songs of the Past, a brand new expansion for The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt that will get its first major reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live. The massive DLC is currently scheduled to launch next year on modern consoles and PC.
According to the official announcement from CD Projekt Red, the development team plans to show off the expansion on the convention floor in Cologne, Germany, late next month. Both industry professionals and regular attendees can get a guided look at the gameplay at the studio booths. The presentation will run across both the business and entertainment halls during the final week of August, giving visitors multiple opportunities to see the new content in action.
Songs of the Past represents an unexpected return to the world of the landmark role playing game. Players will step back into the boots of the legendary monster slayer to experience an entirely new chapter. It is a major undertaking for a game that originally launched over a decade ago, showing that the developers are still committed to expanding the universe for their long term player base.
The original release remains one of the most successful games in history. It has sold more than 65,000,000 copies worldwide. The title also holds over 250 Game of the Year awards and more than 1000 overall industry honors. Bringing new content to such a massive player base is a bold move, but the studio seems ready to prove they can capture the magic again.
