A resourceful modder has turned a Nubia Z70 Ultra smartphone into a fully functional desktop computer. The project sandwiches the Snapdragon 8 Elite device between 2 full size PC cooling fans inside a custom acrylic housing. This bizarre setup allows the phone to run heavy Windows games at stable frame rates without thermal throttling.
The experiment started when a Reddit user named ntsow shared their project on the EmulationOnAndroid forum. The goal was to see how far a standard Snapdragon 8 Elite chip could go when given maximum thermal relief. Instead of using a newer variant like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 found in the REDMAGIC 11 Pro, the modder used a standard 4.32 GHz processor. They encased the phone in acrylic and attached 2 full size desktop PC CPU coolers to keep temperatures low during heavy loads.

The results of this heavy cooling setup are impressive. In stress tests, the modified phone achieved a 99% stability rating over 20 consecutive loops. This means the processor maintained peak speeds without dropping performance due to heat. The system ran for 3 hours of continuous gaming with almost zero thermal throttling, which is a massive leap over any standard stock smartphone on the market today.
This modified device does not just run mobile applications. The creator set up a native Termux and XFCE4 Linux desktop directly on the Android operating system. By connecting an external monitor, a keyboard, and a mouse, they essentially created an ARM computer. Games like Dofus run directly inside this Linux environment, providing a desktop experience powered entirely by a phone.
Windows emulation tests pushed the hardware even further. The system managed to run The Witcher 3 at 1080p resolution using the Ultra graphics preset, holding steady between 20 and 30 FPS with the GPU sitting at 99% utilization. In another test, the shooter Counter Strike 2 ran at 1080p resolution on Low settings, maintaining a fluid 110 to 140 FPS. The modder achieved these results using Nubia Diablo Mode to push the hardware to its absolute limits.
The software configuration is still a work in progress, but the hardware mod proves that thermal limitations are the only thing holding modern mobile processors back. It is a loud, bulky solution, but it shows that your next computer might already be in your pocket.
