Apple has introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, outfitting the 14 inch and 16 inch models with Tandem OLED panels and a Dynamic Island. The machines run on M5 Pro or M5 Max silicon and revive the glowing Apple lid logo. Preorders are open now starting at $2899 for the 14 inch model and $3399 for the 16 inch version.
The new PROLED XDR display uses a Tandem OLED matrix with adaptive refresh rates from 10 to 120 Hz and peak brightness levels reaching 2000 nits. Contrast sits at 10,000,000 to 1 with full support for P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces. Resolutions hit 3024x1986 on the 14.2 inch screen and 3472x2266 on the 16.3 inch panel. The touchscreen supports direct navigation, sketching, and 3D manipulation, supported by touch updates for Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and Pixelmator Pro. Dynamic Island sits at the top of the panel to control Spotlight search, Siri AI, Live Activities, and system playback.
Apple powers the machines with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. Configurations scale from 24GB to 128GB of unified memory alongside 1TB to 16TB of solid state storage. Physical ports provide 3 Thunderbolt 5 connections, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging, and a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack. Wireless connections run on an internal N1 networking chip that supports Wi Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
The chassis is thinner than previous generations, with the 14 inch version weighing 1.38 kilograms and the 16 inch version weighing 1.82 kilograms. Battery longevity reaches 22 hours on the smaller model and 24 hours on the larger variant, with fast charging reaching 50% in 30 minutes. A 6 speaker sound system delivers 50% deeper bass with closed lid playback tuning, paired with a 12 MP Center Stage camera. The base 14 inch configuration costs $2899, the 16 inch starts at $3399, and the fully equipped 16 inch model with 128GB memory and a 16TB drive reaches $14549.
