Apple has introduced the new 24 inch iMac featuring the proprietary M6 chip. The desktop retains the previous generation ultra thin design while upgrading the processor, graphics, memory bandwidth, and wireless networking. Pricing begins at $1499 for the base model, with preorders launching this week.

The external design remains unchanged across 7 colors including blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange, and silver. Up front sits a 24 inch IPS panel with a 4480x2520 resolution, 500 nits of brightness, and a 60 Hz refresh rate. Apple also offers an optional nanotexture glass finish to reduce room glare.

Apple configures the desktop around the M6 processor in 2 distinct tiers. The entry configuration pairs a 10 core CPU with a 10 core GPU, while the higher tier steps up to a 12 core CPU and 12 core GPU. Internal benchmarks show graphics speeds running up to 2x faster than the older M4 generation, with local AI tasks executing up to 5x faster. Memory options cover 16GB, 24GB, or 32GB, while solid state storage scales from 256GB up to 2TB with read and write speeds boosted up to 2x.

The machine adds Apple's custom N1 wireless chip, bringing Wi Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread networking. Port selection includes up to 4 Thunderbolt 4 connections on upper tier models, while the entry model offers 2 ports. Buyers can order an Ethernet port supporting speeds up to 2.5 Gbps, and the hardware now supports 2 external 6K monitors simultaneously. Video calls rely on a 12 MP camera equipped with Center Stage and Desk View. Each unit ships with a color matched mouse and keyboard, with Touch ID included on higher tier configurations.

The 10 core M6 configuration starts at $1499. The 12 core CPU and GPU model retails starting at $1699. Both configurations will begin shipping to customers shortly after preorders open.
