A fan made overhaul of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is officially coming to Steam with Valve and Ubisoft approval. Developed by wiltOS Technologies, this Community Edition brings cooperative campaign play, an upgraded Source engine, and restored cut content to the 2006 action classic. The update will be free for players who own the original game, with a targeted launch before the end of 2026.
wiltOS Technologies moved the game onto a newer build of the Source engine to eliminate legacy technical limitations. The upgrade introduces improved lighting systems, native gamepad input, and Steam achievements. Developers also restored cut assets and mechanics that missed the original 2006 launch window.
The campaign now supports full co op, allowing friends to play through the story together. Players also get a New Game Plus mode alongside dedicated arena challenge modes against waves of enemies. Gameplay updates introduce fresh magic spells, new weapons, and a ground slide maneuver to complement the classic physics based combat.
Multiplayer returns using Steamworks for matchmaking, bringing across maps and game modes previously exclusive to the console release. The team integrated Steam Workshop to let players build and share custom weapons, enemies, and game modes. The Steam store page is already live, though the developers have not confirmed the exact day of launch.
