Directly off the lens of announcement just now, PlayStation announced a very new State of Play event going live tomorrow, June 4th, 2025. That marks an appointment with a 2 pm slot in Pacific Time / 5 pm in Eastern Time / 10 pm British Time / 11 pm Central European Summer Time.
What's in store PlayStation promises a 40-minute-plus presentation filled with "news and updates on must-play games coming to PS5." They've teased that the show will highlight "a selection of great games from creators across the globe." It seems like we are getting in for a very diverse lineup
As per usual, the news came via a post on the PlayStation Blog, tantalizingly vague in details but nevertheless generating a spurt of excitement. This event kicks off a big week of game announcements, almost in the shadow of the main Summer Game Fest 2025 show. One could argue this State of Play is the unofficial starter to the summer gaming news blitz
There is such a wide berth for description that speculation, naturally, has already run rampant. Here are only a few rumblings surrounding possibilities that have been weighed in by some gamers:
- Resident Evil 9 Reveal It feels right as a timing set considering that previous Resident Evil announcements have happened at PlayStation events. So could we finally see the first glimpse of what would be an upcoming chapter in the iconic horror series
- Phantom Blade Zero Release Date Everyone saw that stunning gameplay trailer earlier this year, and fans are mad with excitement to know when they can get it. So a release date announcement would make a lot of sense.
- More on Ghost of Yotei While the State of Play events don't usually give all the attention to first-party titles, it wouldn't be the biggest surprise to see another glimpse of Ghost of Yotei. Maybe even drop a dedicated showcase for it before its October launch.
These are surely just a few thoughts. The marvelous thing about State of Play is its guarantee for surprises and wonderful experiences from numerous studios, big and small. So let us all check what PlayStation has presented for us tomorrow
