Nintendo Takes Products Off Amazon US Due to Grey Market Issues
A new report from Bloomberg shows why Nintendo items are no more sold by Amazon in the US. The problem seems to come from a fight about third-party sellers selling the same items for less.
The Core of the Issue
Sources told that Nintendo was upset about third-party sellers on Amazon. These sellers were said to buy Nintendo items in cheaper places in Southeast Asia and sell them again in the US for less money.
As a fix, Amazon said it would put special tags on real items. But Nintendo did not think that was good enough, so they took their products off the US Amazon site.
Impact on the Nintendo Switch 2 Start
The fight had a big effect Amazon did not help start the Nintendo Switch 2. Even without the help of the big online store, the new game machine started off very well.
- The Nintendo Switch 2 sold 3.5 million units around the world in just four days, making it the quickest-selling game machine ever.
- It sold +1 million units in the US in its first week.
- This broke a record set by the PlayStation 2 in October 2000.
- The Switch 2 Japan Sales Set Record Beating PS5 and Original Switch Launch with 140,026 sales from June 16 to June 22 and (1,241,162 total
Official Talk and World View
When asked, an Amazon person said the claims about their ties with Nintendo were "not right," but did not give more details.
It's also key to note that while Nintendo items, like the Switch 2, are still for sale on Amazon in big places like the UK, Canada, and Japan, removing them from the US store is a big deal. Amazon US makes up two-thirds of the firm's worldwide sales.
