NVIDIA Sees Shortage in AI GPU in China as RTX 50 SUPER News Spread Out
Even as the US eases some limits on NVIDIA's H20 GPUs made for China, a big gap stays in what is needed and what is sent. A report from Jefferies shows this lack, along with a growing black market for GPU fixes and new talk about NVIDIA's next cards for buyers.
The Issue with H20 GPU Needs and Stocks in China
Recent data from Jefferies gives a clear look at this issue. It seems NVIDIA has between 600,000 and 900,000 H20 AI GPUs in stock, but the demand in China is about 1.8 million units.
This comes after the US choice to make it easier to send out these products, which started in April 2025. Even with these changes, Chinese firms still choose NVIDIA's items because they work well and use mature CUDA software, unlike local options like Huawei's Ascend 910D GPUs.
NVIDIA plans to meet some of this need with new B30 chips, set to go to China in late 2025. These chips will have less memory to stick to expected rules.
A Big Market for GPU Fixes Grows from Limits
Less supply of top NVIDIA GPUs has led to an odd result: a busy fix market in China. These spots mainly work on older or banned models like the H100 and A100, which are in high demand for their better AI training skills compared to the newer H20.
These repair places hint at chips being sneaked into the country, going around US rules. With no official help from NVIDIA due to bans, these spots ask up to $2,400 to fix one GPU, with some fixing up to 500 in a month.
Talks Shift to Regular Users RTX 50 SUPER Series Hints
Away from the AI market for big firms, new hints are out about NVIDIA's next GPUs for day-to-day users. A note from TweakTown hints at a launch of the GeForce RTX 50 SUPER series late in 2025, aiming for holiday buys.
This planned time is different from the earlier RTX 40 SUPER series, which started in January. There are words saying:
- GeForce RTX 5080 SUPER: With 24 GB of VRAM.
- GeForce RTX 5070 Ti SUPER: With 18 GB of VRAM.
Usually, NVIDIA's SUPER updates add more memory rather than big changes in main specs. The said VRAM sizes point to the use of new Samsung 3GB GDDR7 memory bits.
