Razer Shows Off New Thunderbolt 5 Dock with Built-In M.2 SSD Slot
Razer just rolled out their new Thunderbolt 5 Dock, a top-notch add-on for strong laptops and game gear. This dock uses the huge speed of Thunderbolt 5 to link up many things at once, like running several sharp screen setups and getting more storage room.
Big-Speed Screen Links
This dock's big thing is its vast screen speed, using Thunderbolt 5's 80 Gbps (or up to 120 Gbps for screens) link. This lets it handle many screens with just one wire. You can set up:
- Three 4K screens at up to 144Hz.
- One 4K screen at up to 240Hz.
- One 8K screen at 60Hz.
More Storage, Cooling, and Power
More than just for screens, the dock lets you add fast extra storage. It works with one M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD that can hold up to 8TB. To keep the dock and the SSD cool under hard use, Razer added an active fan.
The dock can also power up linked laptops or game devices with up to 140 watts.
Lots of Ports
The Razer dock has 11 ports for many kinds of links:
- Four Thunderbolt 5 ports (one to link to the main device).
- Two USB-A ports.
- One common USB-C port.
- One Gigabit Ethernet port.
- One 3.5mm headphone jack.
- One UHS-II SD card slot (on the side).
It’s key to know that the dock lacks HDMI or DisplayPort. You'll need adapters for those.
Razer Chroma RGB
True to Razer’s style, the dock has an RGB light strip at its bottom. You can sync this light with other Razer gear using the Razer Chroma app.
Price and When You Can Buy It
The Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock Chroma is up for grabs now at Razer’s site and Amazon.
- Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock Chroma (Black): $399
- Silver Version: $389 (costs $10 less)
