Leaked PS6 Info Shows Big Boost in Ray Tracing Power
New news on the PlayStation 6 hints that the game box will get a big leap in ray tracing power from the PlayStation 5. Recent leaks tell us that there could be a key shift in what Sony cares about in building its next group of game boxes.
What Got Leaked About The Power
In a "Broken Silicon" podcast not long ago, a leaker called Moore's Law is Dead spoke about what PS6 aims to do. Even if the exact tech parts might have changed, the main goals for power seem to stay the same. The leaks show these rises over the old PlayStation 5:
- Rasterization Power: They think it will be 2x to 3x better.
- Ray Tracing Power: A much bigger 5x to 10x better.
Why Focus Less on Rasterization
The idea here is that the power for rasterization is about as good as it can get. Since the PS5 already does well with high clear pictures at fast rates, a huge jump in rasterization isn't as key as making better other parts. The aim seems to be to keep a smooth 4K at 120 FPS rate for common TVs, not needing a wild rise in rasterization power.
This thought is also shared by ex-AMD top product person, James Prior, who said the big push is moving from just rasterization to tech like ray tracing and AI making steps. These new spots show more room for a clear and strong jump in how good things look.
What Sony Might Try to Do in the Market
This way of doing things might put the PlayStation 6 in a good spot as a top product, without fighting right on with the best gaming PCs. A box as good as an RTX 4080 or 5080, but cheaper than $900, would look good to many buyers. This plan looks at the tiredness in the market for gear priced at $1000 or more.
By aiming big on making ray tracing way better, while keeping the rise in rasterization and price fair, Sony could give a true new-step feel that plays up what makes a game box good (small, easy to use, power saving) without getting into a tough price-power fight with PCs.
