PlayStation 6 and New Handheld Details Emerge from AMD Leak

Talk from Moore's Law says the next PlayStation 6 and a new handheld might be coming

PlayStation 6 (Project Orion) Specs

For the PlayStation 6 (or Project Orion) we hear:

  • It might use less power than the basic PS5, at 160W TBP, and have a chiplet design.
  • CPU: 8 Zen 6 cores.
  • GPU: 40 to 48 RDNA 5 Units, faster at over 3GHz. It has fewer Units than the PS5 Pro, but with the RDNA 5 set-up, it should work a lot better.
  • Memory: Uses a faster 160-bit or 192-bit path with GDDR7 type, moving at 32Gbps, and can handle 640-768 GB/s.
  • How Fast: It aims for three times the base PS5's speed and about double the PS5 Pro's. Its power could match a GeForce RTX 4080 card. Ray tracing might jump by 6-10 times.
  • Still Works With: PS4 and PS5 games.
  • When and How Much: They might start making it by mid-2027, to sell by late 2027 or early 2028, possibly at $499.

New PlayStation Handheld (Project Canis) Specs

And the new PlayStation handheld (Project Canis) might be:

  • This might work on a solid 3nm bit and aim for a 15-watt power use.
  • CPU: 4 Zen 6C cores.
  • GPU: 12 to 20 RDNA 5 Units moving at 1.6 to 2.2GHz.
  • Memory: 128-bit with newer LPDDR5X 7500 RAM.
  • How Fast: Near half the speed of the base PS5, with a big step up in ray tracing.
  • More Bits: Works with PS4 and PS5 games, has microSD and M.2 SSD support, can feel and hear more, has a touch screen, and a USB-C port for quick charging and video out.
  • When and How Much: Might come out close to the PS6, priced between $400 and $500.

A Note on the Next Xbox (Project Magnus)

There's a quick note on the next Xbox (Project Magnus) too:

Talk says it will have 11 Zen 6 cores and 68 Units, stronger than the PS5 Pro but maybe not as strong as the PlayStation 6. Microsoft might launch it before 2027 to get ahead.

Important Reminder

Remember: This info is from a 2023 leak. The final details might change as they keep working on it. Sony or Microsoft will likely confirm the real specs much closer to when they launch, perhaps not before 2026.
