Results of New Benchmarks Show Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Performance Lead

Android smartphone flagship next-generations will feature either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or MediaTek Dimensity 9500. Just after their recent launches, performance results from benchmark tests on their reference devices reveal how these two leading chipsets compare in terms of raw performance. Qualcomm is taking an early lead.

CPU and GPU Benchmark Comparison: Snapdragon vs Dimensity

Tests conducted by Xiaobai's Tech Reviews on reference hardware provide a clear look at the CPU and GPU capabilities of both chips.

CPU Performance: Geekbench 6

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: 3,831 (single-core); 12,459 (multi-core).
  • Dimensity 9500: 3,635 (single-core); 10,941 (multi-core).

GPU Performance (3DMark WildLife Extreme)

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: 8,492;
  • Dimensity 9500: 8,251.

Clearly, the results show the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 outperforming the Dimensity 9500 in both CPU and GPU benchmarks. For the GPU performance, both were aside by a distance. Nevertheless, also close in terms of performance proving their superiority over the Apple A19 Pro in these specific GPU tests, GFXBench's 1440P Aztec test showed Snapdragon 157 FPS against the Dimensity's 155 FPS.

Real World Gaming: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 vs. Apple A19 Pro

Beyond synthetic benchmarks, gaming tests put to comparative tests the performance of gaming efficiency and thermal management of both the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-powered Xiaomi 17 Pro Max combined against the Apple A19 Pro powered iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Gaming Test Results

Wuthering Waves:

  • Xiaomi 17 Pro Max (Snapdragon): 59.1 FPS on average drawing 4.83 W, max temperature of 39.0°C.
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max (A19 Pro): Averaged 57.8 FPS drawing 5.89W, max temperature at 43.3°C.

Honkai Impact 3rd:

  • Xiaomi 17 Pro Max (Snapdragon): 59.6 FPS on average, drawing 5.30W power, max temperature of 40.5°C.
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max (A19 Pro): Average of 58.8 FPS; 5.52W drawn; and max temperature is at 42.7°C.

Conclusion from Early Tests

Crash and burn during the first examination: performance-wise, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 has an edge over the MediaTek Dimensity 9500. Besides, when it comes to real-life application which is in a commercial device such as the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max against Apple's latest A19 Pro chip in the iPhone 17 Pro Max it has better gaming performance, power efficiency, and thermal management.
