Retroid Teases New "Futuristic" Gaming Handheld for October 27 Reveal

Retroid has started teasing a new device on its social media channels, signaling a potential new gaming handheld is on the horizon. The announcement is scheduled for October 27 and comes alongside a recent round of permanent price reductions on the rest of its product line Pocket 5 and Pocket Flip 2.

Timing and Speculation Point to New Hardware

Retroid has had a busy year, with the launch of the Pocket Classic and direct updates for Pocket Flip 2, now offering Dimensity 1100 and Snapdragon 865 options. This teaser comes quite shortly after the price cut across the company, in synchronization with the traditional launch cycle of new products for Retroid.

If Retroid is going to be vague in its own teaser by hinting only at something "futuristic," prior information by Qualcomm may have already leaked the guts of what the new device. A graphic Qualcomm shared back in March suggested that Retroid would be a partner for its new Snapdragon G-series gaming chipsets.

Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 a Likely Chipset

Speculations strongly favor the handheld to be powered by the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2. If so, it would be the first-ever gaming handheld to have this specific chipset on its board. Significant specifications about the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 are:

  • CPU: An 8-core configuration includes 1 Prime core, 4 Performance cores, and 3 Efficiency cores.
  • GPU: Designed to be backed with Adreno A22 GPU, enabling Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 and Snapdragon Game Super Resolution.
  • Display Support: Capable of driving displays of resolutions up to 1440p and refresh rates of 144Hz.
  • Connectivity: In terms of recent technology, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3.

Further information is expected to be confirmed by Retroid in their official announcement later this month.

Speculation
Since the new handheld is potentially powered by the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, we’re thinking it might be the new Pocket 6.
