Corsair Taking Heat for Incrementing Prices on DDR5 RAM after Issuing Discount Codes
A price increase on its DDR5 RAM line has received backlash on Corsair's part with this latest debacle raising the ire of the PC building community against the company. The rant, however, mostly revolves around price hikes on the company's online store just after a 40% discount code was issued as goodwill to its previous customers whose orders were canceled.
History of the Case
This whole problem started when Corsair canceled a few orders made by customers for DDR5 RAM on the grounds that there had been a "pricing mistake." Again, the cancellations were made during an ongoing confirmed purchase, thus causing strong reactants amongst affected customers.
As a solidarity act with the distressed community, Corsair granted them an initial 15% discount code for the purchases they would still make in the future. This turned out to be insufficient for many purchasers, forcing the company to release a more promising discount of 40%.
Adjustment with Pricing after Codes have been Given
Just about two days after distributing the 40% discount codes, several very high-end kits of DDR5 RAM were seen to have inflated prices on Corsair's site. These adjustments were never mentioned in any public announcements and thus have pretty much rendered the discount codes worthless.
To give specific examples of the pricing changes:
- The Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR5 RAM Kit price went up from $841.99 to $1,071 an increase by around $230.
- Price increased from $647.99 to $819.99 for the Corsair Dominator Titanium RGB 48GB DDR5 Kit.
A customer would now incur a final price close to that originally intended for the memory kit before the adjustment even after accessing the 40% discount.
Trend of Criticism Recently
This is just one of the few aforementioned controversies in recent times that had drawn flak against Corsair. In other news, a customer complained about his received notification regarding an order that dated December 31 for a prebuilt gaming PC being canceled without notification. The same would then be listed again on the Corsair website for $800 more than its original price.
