Samsung Introduces QD OLED Penta Tandem Display Technology
Samsung has launched a new premium display brand called QD OLED Penta Tandem. The technology uses a five layer structure to achieve two goals which expand the operational lifetime of OLED panels while it maintains peak brightness and energy efficient operation.
Standard QD OLED panels typically rely on a four layer light source. The Penta Tandem architecture increases the number of blue emitting layers to five. The implementation of this extra layer together with new organic materials enables Samsung to accomplish various performance targets.
- Peak Brightness TVs can now reach up to 4,500 cd/m², while monitors hit up to 1,300 cd/m².
- The panels are designed to last two times longer than the previous four layer QD OLED models.
- The system achieves energy efficiency through enhanced light output which decreases total energy usage.
The QD OLED Penta Tandem panels have obtained VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification for their display devices. The display maintains its deep black levels through its ability to show brightness levels which start at 0.0005 cd/m². The panels can maintain a brightness level of 500 cd/m² across 10% of the display area which enables precise high dynamic range performance.
Samsung provides its manufacturing partners with four specific panel sizes. The available options support both high resolution gaming and ultra wide productivity use.
- 27 inch 4K resolution
- 31.5 inch 4K resolution
- 34 inch 2560 x 1440 resolution
- 49 inch 5120 x 1440 resolution
Samsung plans to expand its product line to include additional display categories in the upcoming periods.
