Fortnite Save the World Free to Play Launch and Nintendo Switch 2 Support
The company will end sales of the current version of Save the World after 8 00 PM ET on March 11 2026. The original PvE mode of the Fortnite ecosystem Save the World will become free to play on April 16 2026 according to Epic Games announcement. The studio will stop selling this version of the game which costs 9 dollars at 8 00 PM ET on March 11. The upcoming launch will introduce new hardware from PC and PlayStation and Xbox which the game has always supported since its first release.
The upcoming Save the World launch on April 16 2026 will enable its first time to become playable on Nintendo Switch 2. The original Nintendo Switch and mobile devices will not support this mode because its building and AI functions need technical resources which those devices lack according to Epic Games confirmation.
The company has created an incentive system which will reward both existing players and those who register before the free launch. Existing players who purchased the game will receive special bundles which contain virtual currency and in game items on April 16 according to the game developer. Upcoming community tier rewards will become available when new players pre register for the game. The total number of registrations will decide which rewards players will receive and the rewards confirm a particular Save the World Hero will be included.
Players can earn V Bucks through Daily Quests Mission Alerts and Storm Shield Defense missions after the transition according to Epic Games announcement. Players need to work together to survive through Save the World which operates as a cooperative multiplayer mode. Players need to explore the environment which can be destroyed to gather resources and build secure bases for monster defense. The game features three main elements which include an ongoing storyline and character development and creation of weapons.
Epic Games has partnered with Beast who is a community expert to develop a guide which explains the complete game mechanics for the expected arrival of new players in April 2026. The resource serves to help players who understand Battle Royale but lack knowledge about the other competitive elements of the franchise.
