NIO Launches Massive ES9 Luxury Electric SUV With 700hp and Executive Features To Rival Top Passenger Vehicles
NIO continues to expand its electric vehicle line up by launching the massive ES9 a full sized sports utility vehicle which aims to rival the market's leading luxury passenger vehicles. The ES9 will be a 5.3 meter long 3 row SUV according to the NIO launch materials and this will make it the largest fully electric SUV to have been manufactured in China. This vehicle has been designed as an executive luxury people carrier which will compete directly with long wheelbase versions of traditional luxury SUVs.
At the heart of the ES9 is a pair of electric motors which develop almost 700hp. This allows the large, heavy SUV to hit 62 mph in just 4.3 seconds and offers a driving range of 620km (CLTC test cycle). It has been built on the modern 900 volt architecture enabling ultra fast charging, plus it fully supports NIO's popular automatic battery swap network.
Inside, the ES9 is built as a chauffeur driven executive lounge, with each of the bespoke luxury seats possessing their own 42 point massage function. Passengers can enjoy large display screens, a separate piece of hardware designed specifically for mobile video conferences and a magnetically attachable tea table is fitted too. Also equipped are a 47 speaker premium audio system, and smart glass windows which can automatically change opacity depending on outside light conditions.
Driver safety and automation will be taken care of by NIO's latest NOP+ autopilot technology, which is supplied with data by 31 sensors monitoring all of the surroundings, in order to assist with driving on the highway and in city roads. NIO is clearly marketing the ES9 as a statement car in much the same vein as a Cadillac Escalade or Mercedes EQS SUV but with the entry price from approximately $54,000 if the subscriber pays for the chassis and leases the battery pack separately.
