Warhorse Studios Announces New Lord of the Rings RPG Development and Kingdom Come Deliverance 3 With Realistic Simulation Mechanics and Living World Design
In a surprise to gaming communities everywhere, Warhorse Studios has announced development for a brand new role playing game to take place in J R R Tolkien's renowned literary masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings. This was announced in the second part of a 2 hour live stream put on by the studio where developers mentioned that they are working on this game in parallel with Kingdom Come Deliverance 3. The Czech game developers will be applying their design philosophy to this high fantasy title for a spiritual continuation of their historical based games.
During this live broadcast Tobias Stolz Zwilling, Communications Director at Warhorse Studios, has given us the first insight into the overall design approach to their new fantasy title and confirms that they will place a strong emphasis on the environment and plot to ensure that the world will be fully interactive. Stolz Zwilling explained the project's intended features in a brief quote.
"It will be a living world with interesting characters, memorable locations, and, of course, with a strong emphasis on the plot and storytelling."
The confirmation of this interactive element has prompted debate among the studios followers. Many assumed a move into the high fantasy genre would discard the very realism that Warhorse Studios' Kingdom Come Deliverance championed throughout the world of 15th century Bohemia. They are planning on staying true to Tolkien's fantasy universe in a more simulated fashion, using realistic mechanics and dynamic characters in lieu of the typical fantasy archetypes.
This large scale project has also come at a time of a large internal shift for the company. Daniel Vavra, a well known cofounder of Warhorse Studios, recently left the company with the communication director stating the reasoning behind Vavra's departure. As of now there is no official projected release date as the game is just in development with the anticipation of future shows of gameplay. Kingdom Come Deliverance 3 will likely be the studios next big title and is to be released next fiscal year.
