Apple Launches Enhanced Trust and Safety Controls for iCloud Families Featuring Advanced Communication Filtering and Refactored App Time Limits
In addition to its ambitious AI agenda, Apple also devoted much of the afternoon Keynote address to another of the day's central themes; Trust and Safety. Working hand in hand with the American Academy of Pediatrics, Apple will roll out a comprehensive package of safety controls to the entire iCloud family account this Fall.
Apple is expanding its existing local machine learning filter system. Moving past simple nudity screening, the updated Communication Safety tools will now intercept and blur incoming shared files, videos, or messages containing explicit gore, violence, or highly sensitive imagery before they can be viewed by kids or teenagers on child accounts.
Time Limits and categories have also been significantly refactored: parents can now assign explicit, separate hourly limits to either Entertainment, Games, or Social Media. Parents can assign, by default, time allowances for school and non school hours and can choose to completely block certain apps on a student's computer over the weekend or school hours and can allow children to send app request approvals from their student's machines to parents for review.
