Audeze MM 520 Open Back Planar Headphones Launched for Studio Mastering

Audeze MM 520 Planar Magnetic Headphones for Professional Studio Mixing and Mastering Featuring Open Back Design and Bass Modulator Technology

Audeze has added the MM 520 planar magnetic headphones to its catalog of pro audio gear. In its official press release on the Audeze product, Audeze states the model is built for studio mixing, music production, and mastering. They are constructed with an open back design which Audeze says will aid the listener in creating an exceptionally accurate soundstage and tonal balance, which are both critical in critical listening scenarios.

The MM 520 use proprietary planar magnetic drivers, built to accurately reproduce high resolution audio. To help create deeper low end frequencies that don't bleed into the mid frequencies with any unwanted coloration, Audeze has implemented its Symmetrical Linear Acoustic Modulator into the headphone design. The custom acoustic module works to give the listener added detail and texture to the lower frequencies.

The headphones are capable of reproducing an extensive frequency response range of 5 Hz 50kHz. Total harmonic distortion measures at under 0.1% at 100dB SPL and 1kHz. With a max power input capacity of 5 Watts the headphones are capable of producing SPLs up to 130dB before failing.

To promote listening comfort over a long session the MM 520 is relatively weighty at 555g. Premium memory foam ear pads cover the ear and can be quickly swapped out with replacement earpads via a magnetic system on the headphones. A 2.5m audio cable, 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter, protective carrying case, and soft carrying pouch all come with the headphones for use in a studio or for transport.

The Audeze MM 520 is intended to be an audiophile reference tool, and it is currently available on the US market for $1699.
