OpenAI Enterprise Financial Monitoring Tools and Budget Controls for Improved AI Investment Oversight and Scalable Usage Tracking
OpenAI has announced a new set of financial monitoring tools available for enterprise clients utilizing its higher end AI services. In an official release OpenAI announced that the new release will feature tracking of real time credit use and detailed allocation of expenses for ChatGPT Enterprise users, allowing a company to control its AI investments when implemented at scale.
The update is a unified global administrator console that combines data usage for ChatGPT, as well as Codex. Administrators will have the ability to watch credit usage by hierarchy of the organization and sort the data based on certain people, products and models. This granular view will enable financial managers to analyze the fluctuation in consumption and also get insights into the departments or accounts that are causing unanticipated spikes in the budget.
To help existing company internal audit systems, OpenAI has released a single cost API, which corporate paying customers can export directly into their own pieces of software. This will enable companies to create individual internal dashboards to use as a benchmark for their own investment in tech, or as a cumulative measure against their other company budgets of expenditure.
Based on the role based credit limits that OpenAI already implemented earlier, this enhancement allows CEOs to define baseline spending caps for entire workspaces during onboarding, and create distinct exceptions for certain teams or individual employees who need for more computing power. This allows companies to avoid increasing budget caps company wide when only a few employees need access.
The solution furthermore adds a self service workflow where employees can manage their own budget. From their accounts they can see their credit consumption and balance. When needed for the project they can make an online request to their administrator, giving a description of the work they are working on, to get a temporary credit boost. OpenAI believes these controls will help organizations stay in bounds with their productivity while scaling access safely.
