Mitsubishi has announced the new electric Eclipse Sportback for the 2027 model year. The company claims the vehicle is completely fresh, but it is actually a rebranded version of a different Japanese electric car. However, Mitsubishi is keeping the final range and price a secret for now.
The new Eclipse Sportback shares its structural foundation with the latest Nissan Leaf. Mitsubishi confirmed that the electric vehicle was developed alongside Nissan as part of an ongoing alliance between the 2 automakers. Visual updates are the main differentiator, featuring altered front and rear bumpers, modified lighting setups, corporate badges, and unique alloy wheels.
Under the skin, the powertrain remains unchanged. The electric car carries a 75 kWh liquid cooled battery that supports fast charging up to 150 kW. Hooking the vehicle up to a compatible charger will boost the battery from 10% to 80% in about 35 minutes. Drivers can also access the massive Tesla charging network using the built in NACS port.
According to the official release from the brand, pricing is still under wraps. For context, the Nissan sibling platform starts at 29,990 dollars in the United States and offers a driving distance between 417 and 488 kilometers. Industry analysts expect the Mitsubishi model to carry a slight price premium when sales eventually begin.
