PNY has unveiled the CS2341 solid state drive at Gamescom. Featuring a custom blue heatsink built for the PlayStation 5 expansion slot, the M.2 2280 drive reaches read speeds up to 7100MB/s. But buyers will have only 1 capacity option at launch.
According to a report by Spanish tech outlet GEEKNETIC, this new drive uses a PCIe Gen4 x4 connection under the NVMe 1.4 protocol. It runs on 3D flash memory. Speed is definitely the main draw here. The drive tops out at sequential reads of 7100MB/s and sequential writes of 6200MB/s. That easily clears Sony requirements for console storage upgrades.
The physical build focuses heavily on thermal management. PNY fitted the drive with a dedicated blue aluminum heatsink designed to slide directly into the PlayStation 5 internal slot without clearance issues. PC builders can also use it in standard desktop motherboards that accept 2280 sized hardware. The custom cooling shroud helps prevent speed drops during long gaming sessions.
Storage options are surprisingly limited. PNY is offering the CS2341 exclusively in a 1TB capacity for now. That might disappoint users looking for 2TB or 4TB drops, but the company does include a 5 year warranty to back up hardware reliability.
