Brightin Star has officially launched the MF 50mm F2 TRI SIGHT, a full frame manual prime lens featuring three distinct optical rendering styles built directly into the barrel. By twisting a physical selector ring, photographers can instantly change between soft focus, standard rendering, and bubble bokeh without adding filters or swapping glass. The optic is now shipping across multiple mirrorless systems at an introductory price of 2149 yuan, which converts to approximately $305 USD.
Changing how light behaves through pure optics is the central design idea here. First showcased during the CP+ photography exposition, the barrel features an adjustment ring that physically alters lens characteristics rather than relying on digital trickery. The Smooth setting retains spherical aberration to soften highlights for portrait work, the Prime setting provides a crisp standard 50mm image, and the Foams setting creates sharp rings around background light points. Switching between these modes slightly alters the physical focus distance, which is why the barrel includes dedicated distance scales for each profile.
Creative options go beyond the internal selector. Brightin Star bundles 4 drop in aperture inserts shaped like a star, a butterfly, a curved triangle, and a four leaf clover. Slipping these metal sheets into the optical path modifies out of focus highlights into custom shapes. This gives photographers a tangible way to experiment with artistic backgrounds right inside the camera.
The internal formula consists of 7 optical elements grouped into 6 clusters. An aperture assembly made of 11 rounded blades keeps circular highlights smooth even when stopping down toward the minimum F22 setting. Minimum focusing distance reaches 0.7 meters, while the front ring accommodates custom 37.5 millimeter screw on filters. The chassis is crafted entirely from metal, carrying a built in lens hood and a removable finger lever on the focus ring to speed up manual tracking. This design is strictly mechanical and contains zero electrical contacts, so camera operators must handle aperture selection and manual focus independently.
