Hohem has introduced the Eyepic, a handheld gimbal camera that directly challenges pocket systems from DJI and Insta360. The device features a 3 axis stabilized gimbal and a rotatable 2.51 inch touchscreen, but sets itself apart with a magnetic camera module that unclips for standalone use. However, the company has not yet shared details on battery life, internal storage capacity, or retail pricing.
Most pocket gimbal cameras lock the lens onto the handle permanently. Hohem is taking a different route with the Eyepic. Users can pull the camera module directly off the 3 axis gimbal to use it as a tiny standalone action camera. It can clip onto clothing, hang from a lanyard, or attach directly to magnetic metal surfaces for hands free recording. The camera unit itself does not have a display. Instead, it streams a 1080p live feed back to the handle screen from up to 9.8 meters away, allowing you to check framing and adjust settings remotely.
The handle provides physical controls including a joystick for manual framing and a dedicated zoom slider. Spinning the 2.51 inch touchscreen toggles instantly between landscape and portrait shooting modes. For video quality, the sensor tops out at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. Water protection is split between the 2 parts of the system. While the gimbal handle has no water resistance, the detached camera unit is completely waterproof down to depths past 9.8 meters. Full technical specifications and retail availability are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
