Honor has unveiled the Magic9, a compact flagship that packs two 200 MP cameras and an 8000 mAh battery into a 6.39 inch body. The device downsizes the Pro Max while retaining professional grade video tools and custom Arri color profiles. It is available in China starting at 4999 yuan, which converts to roughly $745, but makes an unusual compromise with an older USB 2.0 connection.
Mobile photography is the headline feature here. The primary shooter uses a 200 MP 1/1.4 inch sensor with an f/1.9 aperture. A second 200 MP sensor sits behind a periscope lens that delivers 3.5x optical zoom. For wide perspective shots, Honor included a 50 MP ultrawide sensor. Enthusiasts can also attach external 200 mm and 500 mm teleconverters for extra reach.
Video work gets special attention through a partnership with cinema equipment maker Arri. Honor baked in official Arri Look profiles alongside dedicated shooting modes for color grading in post production. Processing these heavy video streams falls on a custom Honor H1 chip designed specifically for RAW video playback and capture. Up front, the selfie setup uses a 55 MP square 1:1 sensor. This unusual aspect ratio lets you capture extra vertical and horizontal room, allowing portrait or landscape video without physically turning the phone around.
Small phones often sacrifice battery capacity, but Honor did the opposite. The Magic9 houses an 8000 mAh cell, supported by 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Up front sits a flat 6.39 inch LTPS AMOLED screen running at 1.5K resolution and 120 Hz. Peak brightness reaches an astonishing 10000 nits under intense sunlight. Honor covers the panel with proprietary Black Diamond glass to guard against drops and everyday scratches.
Under the hood, the phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. Buyers can configure the device with 12GB or 16GB of RAM alongside 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of onboard storage. The phone holds complete IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for water and dust protection. Extra hardware additions include an ultrasonic under display fingerprint sensor, a dedicated physical AI shortcut button, and a proprietary C3 radio chip for difficult reception environments.
The base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage sells for 4999 yuan, which is about $745. Stepping up to 12GB of RAM with 512GB of storage brings the cost to 5499 yuan, or roughly $819. Power users can grab the 16GB RAM model with 512GB of storage for 5999 yuan, around $894. The top tier version packs 16GB of RAM with 1TB of storage for 6999 yuan, coming out to approximately $1043. The only obvious technical drawback on the spec sheet is the physical data port, which stays capped at sluggish USB 2.0 speeds.
