HP has announced the ZBook Ultra G3a, a 16 inch mobile workstation built to handle heavy computational loads like local AI models. The machine packs up to 192GB of unified memory alongside an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 processor featuring 16 Zen 5 cores. Sales are scheduled to begin in October, though HP has not yet confirmed pricing.
Running large language models directly on a laptop requires serious silicon, and HP built this workstation specifically for that task. The AMD processor includes an XDNA 2 neural processing unit delivering 55 TOPS of local artificial intelligence performance. Graphics are handled by the integrated Radeon 8065S chip, which carries 40 compute units on RDNA 3.5 architecture. HP notes that this integrated setup matches the power of a dedicated mobile RTX 4070 graphics card while running inside a cooler thermal footprint.
To keep temperatures down during long rendering sessions, engineers installed a vapor chamber cooling system inside the chassis. Visual options center on a 16 inch format with 3 distinct panel choices. Users can pick a 2.8K OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of brightness, a 4K panel running at 120Hz, or a basic 400 nit FHD display. Memory tops out at 192GB of LPDDR5X 8533 speed, giving developers plenty of headroom for massive data sets.
Physical connectivity covers both office desks and mobile field work. The chassis includes 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports supporting Power Delivery and DisplayPort 2.1, alongside 1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C port and 1 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A port. You also get a microSD card slot, a standard audio jack, and a Nano SIM tray with 5G cellular data support. Maintenance is straightforward thanks to a swappable keyboard design, and the hardware carries official ISV certifications for professional software stability.
