Hyperkin has refreshed its SupaBoy retro handheld with new Crimson and Prime color variants. The portable console plays original Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges directly from the slot. Preorders are open now starting at $129.99, with the new designs permanently replacing the original model.
Hyperkin is streamlining its retro hardware lineup. The classic grey shell is officially retired, leaving Crimson and Prime as the only two retail choices going forward. The system still relies on authentic physical media. You insert 16 bit game cartridges straight into the top slot without dealing with digital files or software emulation quirks.
Visuals run through a 4.3 inch IPS display that lets you switch between 16:9 widescreen and the original 4:3 aspect ratio with a single button. If you prefer couch gaming, the console hooks up directly to a television using standard AV output cables. It also includes 2 front controller ports, allowing 2 players to plug in original Super Nintendo controllers for multiplayer sessions. A built in hardware switch toggles between NTSC and PAL regional formats effortlessly.
A rechargeable lithium ion battery powers the handheld, providing up to 10 hours of continuous playtime on a single charge. That gives players plenty of battery life for long gaming sessions away from a wall outlet.
