iFi Audio has released the iCAN PHANTOM 1.5, a desktop amplifier designed to power both sensitive earphones and high voltage electrostatic models. The updated revision combines solid state and tube circuitry in a single chassis. It aims to replace multiple standalone audio boxes with 1 unified solution for enthusiasts.
The amplifier gives listeners multiple ways to tailor their sound through distinct circuit paths. Users can switch between a discrete Class A solid state input stage and a full tube Class A stage, along with a dedicated Tube plus mode for added harmonic warmth. Bass output can be adjusted using a 3 step XBass circuit, while the XSpace setting widens the overall soundstage. For electrostatic headphone owners, the integrated iESL technology delivers bias voltages reaching 640V without requiring a separate energiser box.
iFi made several physical changes on this 1.5 release to improve everyday operation. A new VU meter screen displays output levels in real time right on the front. The volume knob now features improved internal cushioning for better tactile resistance when making small adjustments. To keep the unit clean during daily handling, both the top glass panel and the display receive a specialized anti fingerprint coating.
