TinyBuild and Redemption Road Games have revealed a 12 minute gameplay overview for Kingmakers, an upcoming action and strategy hybrid. The title drops modern assault rifles, armored vehicles, and explosives straight into medieval warfare against armies of armored knights. While the campaign promises 30 to 40 hours of combat, the release timing remains unannounced.
The core loop moves far beyond a standard third person shooter. Players can switch at any moment between direct gunplay and an overhead command view reminiscent of classic real time strategy titles. From above, you can direct squad movements, position defensive ranks, and erect fortifications across the battlefield. Redemption Road Games confirmed that castle walls and surrounding buildings feature complete physical destruction, fundamentally changing how players attack fortified strongholds.
Between battles, resources collected from the field can be spent back at training camps. Here, players can customize squads, unlock fresh troop classes, and upgrade personal loadouts before heading back to the frontline.
Combat plays out on an enormous scale with thousands of individual soldiers fighting on screen simultaneously. The custom AI system gives each combatant unpredictable behavior, allowing units to stage sudden counterattacks, seek revenge, or fall back depending on battlefield conditions. Taking out an enemy commander causes immediate panic, sending surrounding ranks into full retreat.
The campaign supports solo play as well as a 4 player cooperative mode where each participant commands their own personal army on the field. To keep performance stable during massive skirmishes, the developers are building the game on a customized version of Unreal Engine 4. The focus is on preventing frame rate drops while rendering thousands of active ragdolls, ballistic impacts, and vehicle collisions at once.
