Mojang Studios has revealed the first new Minecraft dimension in nearly 15 years, titled The Sift. The new realm introduces colorful biomes alongside shifting environmental tides that directly alter movement and survival rules. Players can explore the setting starting tomorrow in Minecraft Dungeons II, but the main game will not receive the update until next year.
The announcement arrived during the Minecraft LIVE showcase following a brief initial teaser at Gamescom. Mojang framed the reveal as a major turning point for the franchise, expanding beyond the 3 existing realms that players have known for over 14 years.

Visually, the dimension breaks away from the grim atmosphere of the Nether and the End. The landscape features bright, varied color palettes and introduces hazardous blocks that complicate navigation. Changing environmental currents move across the terrain, affecting both player movement and creature behavior. Confirmed biomes include Meadows and Carapace, though the studio is holding back other region names until players encounter them directly.
The story in Minecraft Dungeons II revolves around this new reality leaking into the Overworld, forcing players to team up to contain the damage. While Mojang has not yet revealed how players will construct a portal in the original sandbox game, the spinoff serves as a hands on preview of the mobs, blocks, and gear arriving later. Minecraft Dungeons II launches tomorrow across Xbox Series X and S, PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, with day 1 availability on Game Pass.
