MSI has rolled out 3 new motherboards built for aging AMD AM4 processors. Powered by the B550 chipset, the lineup includes the compact PRO B550M WIFI6E alongside the standard ATX PRO B550 S and B550 S WIFI6E. Official pricing and launch dates remain unannounced.
Hardware makers still refuse to let the AM4 socket die. These fresh boards appeared directly on the official MSI website, targeting budget builders running Ryzen 3000, 4000G, and 5000 series processors. The smallest option in the trio is the PRO B550M WIFI6E. Built on a micro ATX footprint, it trims down internal expansion to keep total costs low. You get 2 slots for DDR4 memory, 1 PCIe 4.0 x16 slot for your graphics card, and 2 PCIe 3.0 x1 slots for smaller add in cards. Storage handling relies on 1 M.2 slot running at PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds, backed by 4 SATA 6 Gbps ports. Wireless networking is handled by a factory installed Wi Fi 6E card.
Builders wanting more room can look at the standard ATX pair consisting of the PRO B550 S and the B550 S WIFI6E. Both models step up to 4 DDR4 memory slots, supporting up to 128GB of system memory with overclocked speeds past 4800 MHz. Expansion options double. You get 2 full length PCIe x16 slots, 1 PCIe x1 slot, and 4 SATA connectors. For high speed storage, MSI includes 2 M.2 slots, split between PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 3.0 x4 bandwidth. Both boards also feature physical metal heatsinks across the VRM power stages and the primary M.2 drive to manage heat under heavy workloads.
Despite layout differences, base hardware across the 3 boards remains identical. Around back, you will find standard USB A and USB C ports. Hardwired networking across the entire family relies on a gigabit Realtek RTL8111H controller, with the WIFI6E variants adding external antennas. Audio output is powered by the common Realtek ALC897 codec. MSI has not yet shared when these boards will hit store shelves or what they will cost at checkout.
