Nikon has introduced the Z5IIC, a compact full frame mirrorless camera that eliminates the traditional electronic viewfinder in favor of a sleek flat top profile. The camera packs a 24.5MP sensor and 5 axis stabilization into a lightweight magnesium alloy body. It enters the market priced at $1399.95 USD for the body only.
The C in the model name stands for casual. Nikon designed this body to lower the barrier of entry for creators stepping up to full frame photography. Weighing in at 620 grams, the chassis comes in silver and black with weather sealing to block dust and moisture. The flat top shape makes it easy to slide into everyday bags, while a pronounced front grip keeps handling secure. A 3.2 inch vari angle display flips outward to handle selfies and vlog style recording.
The camera runs on a 24.5MP back illuminated CMOS sensor paired with the flagship EXPEED 7 image processor. The autofocus system leans on deep learning algorithms to recognize and track 10 distinct subject types, including people, dogs, cats, birds, cars, airplanes, and fish. Low light autofocus locks onto targets in extreme conditions down to minus 10 EV. Burst shooting hits 14 frames per second in continuous mode, jumping to 30 frames per second in high speed capture with a 1 second pre release buffer.
Internal hardware provides up to 7.5 stops of 5 axis vibration reduction. For beginner photographers, Nikon added 15 automated scene modes covering food, portraits, and night shots, alongside an AUTO mode that manages aperture, shutter speed, and ISO on the fly. A dedicated Picture Control button lets shooters toggle creative color recipes and custom film grain effects straight from the body.
Video creators get 4K UHD recording at 60 frames per second, Full HD at 120 frames per second, and up to 5x slow motion. The camera writes 10 bit N Log and N RAW footage directly to standard SD memory cards. It also works as a plug and play webcam for live streaming via UVC and UAC protocols over a single USB connection.
According to the official announcement, the Nikon Z5IIC body retails for $1399.95 USD. A starter kit with the Nikkor Z 24 to 50mm f/4 to 6.3 zoom lens is priced at $1699.95 USD. Global shipments are scheduled to begin next month.
