Panasonic has officially released the LUMIX S 20mm F2.5, a compact ultra wide angle prime lens built for full frame cameras. Available in black and silver colorways, the lightweight optic weighs just 142 grams and measures 40.9 millimeters in length. The lens is now available for purchase in China at 2598 yuan, which converts to approximately $365.
The internal optical formula consists of 11 glass elements divided into 9 groups. To suppress color fringing and maintain sharpness across the frame, the design integrates 3 aspherical elements and 3 extra low dispersion elements. The lens can focus on subjects as close as 0.18 meters, making it useful for close perspective shooting. The front barrel accepts standard 62 millimeter threaded filters.
Panasonic engineered the barrel to resist dust and water splashes during outdoor shoots. The front glass element features a fluorine coating that repels water droplets, grease, and finger smudges. Physical controls on the barrel include a customizable manual focus ring and an assignable Fn button, giving photographers direct access to selected camera settings on the fly.
