TTArtisan has introduced an L mount version of its AF 85mm F1.8 Neo portrait lens for full frame mirrorless cameras. The optic features an STM stepping motor for eye and face autofocus tracking alongside a lightweight glass fiber body. It goes on sale in China at an introductory price of 499 yuan, or roughly $70, before climbing to its standard retail price of 599 yuan, which is about $84.
Inside the barrel, the optical layout consists of 12 elements arranged in 8 groups. TTArtisan built the system entirely out of glass, packing in 2 high refractive elements and 2 extra low dispersion elements to suppress color fringing and chromatic aberrations. The front of the lens accepts standard 62mm screw on filters, while the minimum focusing distance is set at 0.8 meters for close portrait work.
Autofocus performance relies on an internal STM motor designed for smooth, quiet tracking. The system fully supports eye and face recognition algorithms on modern camera bodies. The entire unit weighs approximately 332 grams because of its glass fiber composite shell, making it an easy carry for Panasonic, Leica, and Sigma photographers who want an affordable portrait prime without added bulk.
