A24 is producing a live action film adaptation of Elden Ring with a production budget approaching $200 million. Directed by Alex Garland, the project represents the most expensive production in the history of the independent studio. Filming in the United Kingdom has already concluded ahead of a projected 2028 theatrical release.
The Wall Street Journal reports that production costs climbed well past initial spring projections of $100 million. The final $200 million figure covers physical production expenses alone, with marketing costs planned separately. The previous studio budget record belonged to the Timothee Chalamet sports drama Marty Supreme at roughly $70 million, followed by Garland's Civil War at approximately $50 million. This rapid expansion in spending signals a major shift toward large scale releases for A24.
Alex Garland wrote the screenplay and directs the feature, working directly with the lore created by George R R Martin. The cast includes Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, and Nick Offerman, though character assignments remain unannounced. The production team completed principal photography between April and July in the United Kingdom, moving the footage directly into post production visual effects. A24 plans to bring the film to theaters in 2028.
