Arkane Lyon Faces Potential Sale as Marvel Blade Development Continues

Microsoft is actively seeking a buyer for Arkane Lyon, putting the future of Marvel Blade into question. The French development studio behind Dishonored faces potential closure if an acquisition deal falls through before labor mandated deadlines expire. Industry reporting suggests a buyer is already negotiating final terms to secure the studio.

French publication Le Monde reports that Microsoft intends to offload the developer to comply with local employment regulations. French law prohibits companies from shutting down domestic operations without first attempting to sell the business as an active asset. Local labor unions successfully negotiated a 1 month extension to the initial sale window to give prospective buyers more time to finalize an agreement. If a buyout fails to materialize, Microsoft could shutter the facility and cancel ongoing projects.

The primary casualty of a closure would be Marvel Blade, which was first announced back in 2023. Conflicting reports surround the current state of production. Union representatives claim the title is close to completion, warning that a cancellation would destroy critical progress. However new reporting from PC Gamer contradicts that optimistic assessment, indicating that an official launch remains "years" away after 3 full years of active development.

Industry reporter Jason Schreier provided clarity on the situation, stating that a prospective buyer has already emerged. Schreier reported that both parties are very close to reaching an agreement, adding that an outright shutdown of Arkane Lyon would be deeply surprising at this stage. Preserving the studio protects the creative team responsible for critically acclaimed releases like Deathloop and the Dishonored series, keeping the Marvel Blade project on track under new ownership.
