Chinas top 5 smartphone makers are preparing wide screen slab phones for market release in 2027. Prominent industry insider Digital Chat Station revealed on Weibo that all 5 domestic brands have greenlit development projects across multiple market tiers. Apple reportedly has no plans to enter this specific form factor.
OPPO is expected to launch its wide slab device first among Android makers, followed closely by Honor. Other domestic brands are moving forward at a slower pace. The active development projects cover camera focused flagships, mid tier models, and performance oriented gaming devices. Testing is currently accelerating as manufacturers explore different screen aspect ratios to stand out from standard candybar phones.
The industry shift follows early market success from Huawei in this design space. The Huawei Pura X View wide slab handset recorded approximately 282,000 activations during its first 5 days of availability in week 37. With an average selling price around 7000 yuan, the device ranked number 1 in single product sales for that tracking period. That initial commercial reception helped Huawei secure the top overall market share for the week, proving strong consumer demand for wider screen formats.
