Valve Deadlock Breaks Player Records Following City Never Sleeps Update

Valve has rolled out the City Never Sleeps update for its unreleased hero shooter Deadlock, pushing concurrent player counts past 228000. The major content drop introduces 6 playable characters and several new districts to the New York map. Access remains restricted through invite only playtesting while the project officially stays in early development.

Valve overhauled large portions of the game in this latest patch. The official website now centers entirely around the City Never Sleeps release, which unlocks 6 new heroes on a gradual schedule. Map designers expanded the playable New York environment by opening up several fresh urban districts. Players also get a dedicated merchant character selling exclusive gear, redesigned user interface elements, reworked store menus, and new gameplay objectives scattered across the map.

The content surge pushed concurrent player numbers to an all time peak of 228000 active users. That figure shatters the previous record of 171490 set back in 2024. Even during regular periods without major content drops, the game regularly sustains peak daily numbers of 70000 players.

These player records come despite Valve never hosting a formal public marketing campaign for the title. The game remains playable strictly through private invitations from existing testers. Valve developers still describe the project as an early stage build, leaving any official commercial launch timeline unconfirmed.
