Bethesda Game Studios has officially named its next fantasy role playing project The Elder Scrolls VI Sentinel. Studio head Todd Howard revealed the title during a 40th anniversary retrospective video, confirming the setting as the desert province of Hammerfell. The studio showed no gameplay footage and provided no target release window.
The title reveal arrived at the conclusion of a 9 minute documentary reviewing studio history. The accompanying teaser displays a desert landscape, an Elder Scroll rising from the sand, and a brief sample of the musical score. Sentinel itself refers to a major trading port located along the Iliac Bay in the Redguard homeland of Hammerfell.
A specific passage of lore appears at the end of the footage, attributed to an in game historical figure:
The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future loss. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.
The text is credited to Yazar, a Moth Priest serving High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell in the year 4E 206. Because the events of Skyrim took place in 4E 201, this subtitle establishes that the narrative occurs 5 years later. The imagery indicates the plot will center directly on the physical Elder Scrolls themselves, though Bethesda has kept all mechanical and narrative systems private for now.
