Meta Sets End of Feature Support for Quest 2 and Quest Pro Headsets

Meta is officially ending software feature development for the Quest 2 and Quest Pro headsets. According to an announcement on the official Meta developer blog, both devices will stop receiving new platform capabilities after firmware version v2.13. Critical security fixes and basic store support will remain active through late 2027.

The final feature update arrives in early 2027 alongside SDK release v213. Following this milestone, all future platform capabilities and software tools will target the Quest 3, the Quest 3S, and newer hardware. Meta plans to supply quarterly security patches and critical bug fixes until the end of 2027. Developers can submit new applications supporting both older headsets through late 2027, after which new store submissions will appear exclusively on newer devices.

Existing game libraries will continue to function normally. The digital store remains open on both headsets, protecting previous user purchases without removing older titles from rotation. Multiplayer crossplay between Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, and Quest 3S continues to run at the platform level. Studios can keep pushing software patches, balance tweaks, and seasonal events to current releases. If a developer chooses to decommission an active title and revoke service access, Meta policy requires a warning period of at least 180 days.

This phased retirement sets a fresh hardware baseline across the company lineup. Meta currently offers the Quest 3 at $599 and the entry level Quest 3S at $349. Shifting resources away from older hardware also prepares the software ecosystem for the upcoming Meta VR Glasses, an advanced headset scheduled for next year featuring micro OLED displays and a lighter frame with an expected $1299 price point.
