Six Years of Android Updates – That's a Big Deal
It appears that more and more Android smartphone makers are finally getting serious about long-term software updates, and Honor is certainly among them. The company has now officially announced its plans for the Honor 400 series, and it's music to our ears.
According to a press release, Honor is pledging a ludicrously long six years of Android updates for these new phones. Since they'll be launched with Android 15, that means you can expect your Honor 400 or 400 Pro to be getting big Android updates all the way until 2030. That's what Samsung does for some of its best-selling phones, like the Galaxy A56, and that's a very big promise.
Android 16 Arriving Earlier Than You Might Think
But wait, there's more. Honor is not just talking about the distant future. They've also announced the bombshell that the Honor 400 series is to receive an update to Android 16 later this year. That is quite quick, especially when the stable release of Android 16 is only planned for Pixel hardware in June. Few other manufacturers will be able to match such a quick rollout.
Other Honor Phones That Will Get the Android 16 Update
It is not just the new Honor 400 series that will be enjoying Android 16 this year. Honor has reaffirmed that its best-selling Magic 7 Pro (you can buy it on Amazon.de for about €999.90) and the sexy-looking Magic V3 foldable will both have the update in 2025 too. In fact, Honor's Android 16 beta program is already running for the Magic 7 Pro, so its stable update may even arrive slightly sooner than for the Honor 400 series.
This Android 16 update will, naturally, come pre-installed with a new version of Honor's own MagicOS operating system software. Since the current MagicOS 9 sits atop Android 15, we're certain to be looking at MagicOS 10 with Android 16.
Mark Your Calendars
Honor 400 series goes official on May 22nd in Europe and the UK, while for Chinese folks, it happens a little later, on May 28th.
I'm glad to hear Honor is stepping up its software support game. Bigger updates mean better security, new features for longer, and overall, more bang for your buck.
